Z plane Z plane

Ok, if you aren't alteast my age you probably dont even get that joke in the subject line. When I was a little girl I would watch " Fantasy Island " and Tatoo would yell " Z Plane , Z Plane."

Anyway....

Today we started talking about things that travel in the air. Only a couple of the kids had been on an airplane. Geneviette, my grand daughter is a veteran flier. She has flown back and forth to Hawaii 7 or 8 times. She told them about the bathrooms on the plane and the nice lady that brings you snacks. She also told them there is a TV with movies on the plane you can watch. We talked about a birds wings and how a plane has wings also but they don't really flap up and down. We brainstormed ways we think they plane stays in the air. We flew around the room to one of my favorite songs called " Ready to Fly." For small group today we used the airplane above with the house made of blocks. We talked about position words like behind, in front of, above, under , below , beside and between. This is a real toughie for some children. When talking to your kiddos don't insult their capacity to learn by talking " down to them." Use good vocabulary to increase theirs!

Mrs Beth "unearthed" the train set from the resource room today and it was a popular spot.

We continued with our Al's Pals lessons today. We learned that sometimes we have to STOP and THINK. The hand signals for that are obvious- hold out your hand like a stop sign and then point to your head. We talked about situations that might require us to stop and think to make the right choice. If you want to try this at home it will only reinforce what we do here. So far we have three self control techniques we have learned:

1. Go to the loft to be alone until you feel better.
2. Use the three calm down steps - breathe , count, say calm down.
3. STOP and THINK

  1. Sometimes I need to "Stop & Think" too!! What great skills your teaching those kids. I love teaching positional words with the kids, we can really get creative. When we did between, we talked about how Peanut butter is sandwiched BETWEEN the bread, and then pretended to make People PB sandwiches... they surely won't forget that lesson, neither will I :) Good Times!! Also, love the train set!! You can never go wrong with trains in the block area :)!! Have a Great Week!!
