Here comes Peter Cotton Tail

We had a very special visitor today - Rajah. Rajah is the lion head rabbit pet of Audrey, Keegan and Devin. Devin brought it by to visit us this morning. The kids were so excited. Before Rjah got here we read the story of Peter Rabbit. It was so funny, the kids were appalled that Peter didn't obey his mother. Then we discussed " safe rabbit rules." We decided that only petting him with one hand would be best. Audrey had told us if we squeeze him he will bite. So.. no squeezing with one hand! :)

After Rajah left we played outside for a LONG time. This winter has been pretty tough so we took advantage of the great weather.

Randy put this little tunnel ( PVC ) over the kids trike path. The kids like it and I like the concept but I would like it to " look" a little more natural or whimsical or SOMETHING for the yard. Any ideas?

Tomorrow is our egg hunt. The kids will be hunting eggs at 2:30. They do not need to bring baskets , we are making them. ( If the kids tell you I am turning into a rabbit you might need to know this story. I am painting the cans the kids will be decorating tomorrow for the egg hunt. I got white spray paint on my hands and wrists. One of the kids came over and asked me why my hand was white. Something possessed me just to look at the child and say " Got a carrot?" The child looked at me funny. I proceeded to tell them I MIGHT be turning into a rabbit. I even took it so far as to hop when I started to walk away. The kids loved it and you should have seen the looks I got. Several of the kids were quite curious and came over many times to ask questions. It was only later I realized today was Aprils Fools Day. I guess that was a good one. )

Another great day.. almost in the can. :)

so glad they loved Rajah, he's napping from his busy day :) as for the tunnel what about those streamers that are shorter that they hang like at prom and homecoming? the ones that are pretty are sparkle or something like that, not sure how often they would have to be replaced but maybe just over the ends of the tunnel, kids always like walking through those for some reason!! it would add a whimsical touch to it :)

  2. Audrey LOVED having Rajah come to visit, it's all she talked about when we picked her up from school :-D

  3. I was thinking for natural, scatter a few packets of morning glories and let them spiral their way up the pipes!! They would be BEAUTIFUL all summer long. But the down side is that you would never, ever, EVER get them out of your back yard ever again. They reseed absolutely everywhere. But sure would be pretty!

  4. I spent a long time looking at Randy's tunnel thinking that it was an idea I was going to steal, but how would I make it more "natural or whimsical or something," before reading your comment! =)

I like Devin's streamer idea. You could use blue and green ones and call it a "car wash."

A few weeks ago, we had a great time tearing long strips of fabric. The kids could make their own ribbons.

Those arches would also look good festooned with tissue paper flowers, but they wouldn't last long.

You could also tie greens and/or sticks onto them. One of my parents built an archway with sticks and twine. It wouldn't be too hard to tie stuff to the PVC.

    That's one funny bunny!

  5. Use grape vines to wrap around the poles. You can get them all year, soak them in glycerin and they stay pliable - then you can add decorations as you need for each month/season/holiday. I love the arch. You could also keep adding grape vines every year to really thicken it up. A secret garden! A spook alley (not too scary) a mountain (grey material draped over the outside - the bear went over the mountain) - the possibilities are endless. Thanks for sharing!
